"Prayer and quiet service: these are our victorious weapons."
~ Pope Francis, Urbi et Orbi blessing

Our Lady of Victories, we commend to your maternal care and keeping the men and women of the Armed Forces, and we ask you to protect them from all danger to body and soul. Intercede for them, that they may possess a loyal, courageous and disciplined spirit. Inspire in them the love of justice, and may they be called to serve only for the establishment of peace throughout the world.
O Prince of Peace, we humbly ask your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching courage to defend with honour, dignity and devotion the rights of all who are imperilled by injustice and evil. Be their rock, their shield and their stronghold, and let them draw their strength from You, for You are God, forever and ever.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return home safely, that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care.

O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on your departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death and resurrection of Your Son, they may share in the joy of Your heavenly kingdom, and rejoice in You with Your saints forever.

Jesus, Prince of Peace, You have asked us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. We pray for our enemies and for those who oppose us. With the help of the Holy Spirit, may all people learn to work together for that justice which brings true and lasting peace.

O God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the Armed Forces of this country. In faith and hope, we turn to You for comfort. Grant that we may trust in Your Mercy, and send an Angel to sustain us as we await their safe return.

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, hear the prayer of all Officers with Soldiers under their command. Grant that they may bring the Spirit of Christ to all their efforts and orders, as they exercise their authority over those entrusted to their care. Inform their judgement with Your Holy Spirit so that they may make decisions in conformity with Your law and for the common good.

God of power and might, at every moment and in every place You are near to those who call upon Your name in faith. In marriage you have blessed us with a share in your divine love. Look upon all spouses serving in Afghanistan and keep them in Your safekeeping no matter where the road may lead. And when the battle is ended, bring them safely home to those who love them.

Saint George, heroic Catholic solider and defender of your faith, you dared criticize a tyrannical Emperor and were subjected to horrible torture. You could have occupied a high military position, but you preferred to die for God. Obtain for us the great grace of heroic Christian courage that should mark all true soldiers of Christ.

Our Victorious Lady, you have such powerful influence with your Divine Son, in conquering the hardest of hearts. Intercede for those we pray for, that their hearts being softened by the ways of Divine Grace, they may return to the unity of the one true faith
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Grant us these prayers through Christ our Lord.

It's time for prayer.

Nine days, linking up in prayerful support for the Kabul relief effort and all those who served in Afghanistan in the past.

Our people on the ground with the Parachute Regiment and 16 Air Assault Brigade, our people supporting the air bridge, and our people back at RAF Brize Norton are all working hard and bearing their burdens. It is emotionally draining work.
Many who've previously served in Afghanistan are bearing their burdens too. A sudden withdrawal and sudden defeat of the ANA raises uncomfortable questions.

The novena will run from 26th August - 4th September.
